HELENA — Hendrix College soccer coach Doug Mello has been named the inaugural men’s soccer coach at Carroll College in Montana.

Carroll athletic director Bruce Parker announced Mello’s hiring on Monday.

Mello has been coaching college soccer for 37 years and has built programs from the ground up several times. He has coached a national collegiate record of 1,154 soccer matches and his teams have won 712 of those games.

Mello began the men’s and women’s soccer programs at Siena Heights University in Michigan and Luther College in Iowa. He has coached at Hendrix for the past six years.

He and his family purchased a home in Eureka six years ago and he says they had hoped to make Montana their home eventually.

Mello’s first task will be putting together a team that will be ready to play this fall.
