BILLINGS — A 19-year-old seminary student who was shot in the chest by a homeowner who mistook him for an intruder continues to recover at a Billings hospital.

Police Lt. Kevin Iffland tells The Billings Gazette that staff at St. Vincent Healthcare reported the man was in stable condition Monday, but recovering.

The victim was a family friend of the homeowner and was staying with him while attending the seminary. He was making a phone call in the garage at about 11 p.m. Saturday and trying to be quiet when the homeowner mistook him for an intruder and shot him.

Iffland says no charges have been filed. The city attorney’s office is reviewing the case.
