Montana’s Barta Confirms Commitment to Gonzaga

By Beacon Staff

SPOKANE, Wash. — Basketball standout Jill Barta of Fairfield, Montana, has confirmed her commitment to play at Gonzaga after head coach Kelly Graves left to become head coach at Oregon.

Barta tells the Spokesman-Review she will be in Spokane this month to start summer school and is excited to play for the Bulldogs.

The 6-foot-3 Barta led the Fairfield Eagles to a 104-0 record and four Class B state championships over the past four seasons and averaged more than 23 points and eight rebounds per game as a senior. She signed a letter of intent with Gonzaga last November. Coach Graves took the Oregon job in early April.

Barta says she was surprised by Graves’ leaving, but said new coach Lisa Fortier was heavily involved in her recruitment.
