Flooding Closes Two Popular Flathead Fishing Sites

By Beacon Staff

Rising waters have prompted emergency closures of two Fish, Wildlife and Parks fishing access sites on the Flathead River, the Old Steel Bridge site and Kokanee Bend.

Both sites are flooding and creating public safety concerns, according to FWP.

Access requires crossing flood water to reach the designated river access points. These sites have been closed in the past due to flooding.

At the Old Steel Bridge access site on the east side of the Flathead River near Kalispell, the accessible fishing pier is partially under water.

At the Kokanee Bend access site about 10 miles north of Kalispell, the river has flooded the road access area and boat ramp.

Closures and restrictions will continue until flood conditions subside, FWP reported. Additional closures are possible as conditions change, and recreationists should look for barricades and signs to indicate closed sites. FWP urges caution if venturing on or near rivers during high water.
