Super PAC Zinke Founded Spends More in Support

By Beacon Staff

HELENA — A Montana super PAC has spent an additional $75,000 on advertising that supports Republican U.S. House candidate Ryan Zinke.

Lee Newspapers of Montana reports that Special Operations for America spent $75,240 for media buys, according to filings this week with the Federal Election Commission.

SOFA has been running ads supporting former state Sen. Ryan Zinke of Whitefish since Zinke stepped down as its chairman to announce his candidacy. The group has spent over $185,000 overall in independent expenditures in support of Zinke.

Super PACS are allowed to spend money to support or oppose candidates, but they are not allowed to coordinate with candidates or their campaigns.

Two Washington, D.C.-based advocacy groups have filed an FEC complaint alleging that Zinke has coordinated with SOFA, which his campaign has denied. The FEC has not yet issued a ruling.
