By Beacon Staff

A 42-year-old Pablo man has been charged with two counts of assault after stabbing a tribal detention center officer on May 22 in St. Ignatius. Eugene M. Seyler was being held at the tribal jail for a public nuisance charge when he attacked a guard on Thursday afternoon, according to the Lake County Sheriff.

The assault was captured by jail security cameras. It came to an end when another inmate at the facility got control of Seyler and alerted authorities. The detention officer was later released from the hospital after sustaining “significant injuries” in the attack.

Seyler is currently being held in the Lake County Jail on $150,000 bond. He has been charged with aggravated assault and assault on a peace officer, both of which are felonies.
