HELENA — Veterans Affairs Montana Health Care System officials won’t address the timing of the director’s decision to step down this summer.
VA officials announced Thursday Christine Gregory would retire at the end of June to spend more time with her family.
She will have spent 16 months as the Montana system’s director.
Spokesman Randy Martin said Friday Gregory will not speak to the media about her decision.
Martin declined to answer questions about whether Gregory’s retirement is related to a federal investigation’s findings of problems in the nationwide health care system.
Instead, Martin referred to a Thursday VA statement that says Gregory is retiring after 32 years and the decision is a personal one.
VA Secretary Eric Shinseki resigned Friday amid allegations of treatment delays and preventable deaths around the country.
