STEVENSVILLE — State wildlife officials are investigating the illegal shooting of a wolf in western Montana last weekend.
Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials said according to the wolf’s GPS collar, it was shot between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on May 31 east of Stevensville.
The Missoulian reports the wolf was fitted with a GPS collar in Oregon in 2013 and had made its way through Idaho and the Big Hole Valley before arriving in the Bitterroot Valley earlier this month. Its carcass was found near a road in the Burnt Fork area.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call state wildlife officials at 1-800-TIP-MONT (800-847-6668). Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their information leads to a conviction in the case.
