It seems impossible to outgrow the love of bikes. This month at the library we’re all about bikes. Riding, repair, DIY accessories…and the brand-new ImagineIF Bike, complete with Wi-Fi and free books.
There’s nothing quite like the feeling of wind in your hair, bugs in your teeth, dust in your eyes. Riding a bicycle down a gravel road. Falling off said bicycle and skinning your knees.
But let’s get back to the wind in your hair. Do you remember when you learned to ride? As a kid, it’s the first independent, faster way of propelling yourself away from parents, annoying siblings, chores and homework. And as an adult, it’s so much quieter and more playful than driving.
So in celebration of all things bikes, here’s a selection of good stuff.
“Just Ride: A Radically Practical Guide to Riding Your Bike” by Grant Petersen. This guy wants you to “ride like you did when you were a kid – just get on your bike and discover the pure joy of riding it.”
DIYbikes.org. West Seattle bike enthusiasts offer practical advice so you can ride more often.
“Triplets of Belleville.” Combine the Tour de France, gangsters and a musical trio, and you get this fun whirlwind of animation.
“Everyone Can Learn to Ride a Bicycle” by Christopher Raschka. This sweet picture book is about a dad teaching his daughter to ride a bike.
“Who Killed the Electric Bike?” I just made that one up. Gotcha. But if you’re a teen, you could actually win an electric bike from ImagineIF this summer. I’m already jealous.
