A 79-year-old Columbia Falls woman was killed and five other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Hungry Horse.

The Montana Highway Patrol says an Alberta woman had stopped her sport utility vehicle at about 5 p.m. Thursday and was waiting for traffic to clear so she could turn eastbound on U.S. Highway 2.

She crossed in front of a westbound vehicle on the four-lane road, and into the path of a car traveling westbound in the outside lane. The victim was a passenger in the car.

A 72-year-old man who was driving the car and an 81-year-old woman, also from Columbia Falls, were injured and taken to the hospital in Kalispell. The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A 42-year-old woman, 47-year-old man and 3-year-old boy, all from Calgary, suffered minor injuries.
