HAVRE — Montana State University-Northern officials say head football coach Mark Samson has been placed on leave for an undisclosed personnel matter.

University spokesman Jim Potter told the Havre Daily News Tuesday the university will conduct an investigation and make a decision on Samson’s future “as soon as possible.”

Potter says the university can provide no information about the circumstances surrounding the paid leave because it is a personnel matter.

Samson did not show up for practice Monday. Potter says members of the team met with Chancellor Jim Limbaugh to express their support for Samson and ask what was going on.

Samson has coached the Lights for 10 years. He was the Frontier Conference coach of the year and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Region 9 coach of the year in 2006.
