Authorities say a Cascade County sheriff’s deputy has been killed during a pursuit.

County Attorney John Parker said the deputy was killed Thursday afternoon. The officer’s name wasn’t immediately released.

Parker said no other details would be released Thursday. He said an investigation was underway.

The Great Falls Tribune reported the pursuit started in Belt and ended in Black Eagle. Several law-enforcement agencies were involved.

A Montana Highway Patrol official says the case might be referred to the Division of Criminal Investigation in the state Department of Justice.
