A 62-year-old Missoula man is presumed dead after he reportedly fell off a boat in the Middle Thompson Lake between Kalispell and Libby over the weekend, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.
Anthony Joseph Bachman reportedly fell off a boat and drowned while intoxicated shortly after 6 p.m. Aug. 16. He was not wearing a personal floatation device. People aboard the boat were unsuccessful in rescuing Bachman.
As of Monday morning, Bachman’s body had not been recovered. Sheriff Roby Bowe said divers were using sonar equipment to comb the lake that is, in parts, 160 feet deep. The Lincoln County Sheriff, Fisher River Valley Fire and Rescue, David Thompson Search and Rescue, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office.
The Lincoln County Sheriff and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks are investigating the incident.
