CORVALLIS, Ore. — Tres Tinkle, a top basketball recruit and son of Oregon State men’s basketball coach Wayne Tinkle, has decided to stay in Missoula for his final year of high school.

Wayne Tinkle told the Oregonian of his son’s decision on Monday. He says Tres wants to graduate from high school with his friends and teammates.

Tres, a 6-foot-7 forward, led Missoula Hellgate to a Class AA state title as a sophomore averaging nearly 20 points per game. He was named the MVP of the state tournament. Last year he averaged 21.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game as Hellgate finished second at state.

Tres Tinkle is scheduled to make a recruiting trip to Oregon State this weekend.
