Absentee Ballot Return Reaches 83 Percent

More than four in five Montana residents who requested absentee ballots had returned them by mid-day Tuesday

HELENA — More than four in five Montana residents who requested absentee ballots had returned them by mid-afternoon Tuesday.

The Secretary of State’s office says just over 250,400 absentee ballots were issued for the 2014 general election and 207,700 had been returned by Tuesday afternoon, for an 83 percent return rate.

A total of 673,049 people had registered to vote by 3 p.m. Tuesday, up from just under 660,000 in the June primary. Turnout numbers will be released after the polls closed.

The Secretary of State’s office 1,310 people registered to vote at the polls through mid-afternoon Tuesday, bringing the total voter registrations in the past 30 days to 6,975.

People can register and continue to vote and drop off absentee ballots until the polls close at 8 p.m.
