A Browning man faces charges that he illegally shot three grizzly bears this summer.
Everett Skunkcap is scheduled to make an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Keith Strong in Great Falls on Dec. 4 on three counts of unlawful taking of a threatened species.
Court records say Skunkcap told investigators that his dogs alerted him to the adult female and two cubs on Aug. 6. The bears were 200 to 500 feet away from his grandchildren and on the other side of a creek. The children ran into the house and he shot the bears.
The Independent Record reports Skunkcap told Blackfeet wildlife department employees earlier this year that he shot a grizzly bear in 2013 and would do so again. He was told to call the office if there were any bear management issues.
