Police Identify Whitefish Teenager Killed in Accident

Tabitha Mary Migwi of Whitefish was killed on Montana Highway 40 on Monday

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office has identified the 16-year-old girl from Whitefish who was killed in a motor vehicle accident on Montana Highway 40 on Monday afternoon.

Tabitha Mary Migwi was at the intersection of Montana Highway 40 and Dillon Road when the vehicle she was driving was t-boned by a semi-truck. Migwi was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured in the incident and the cause of the wreck is under investigation by the Montana Highway Patrol.

Migwi was a student at Stillwater Christian School in Kalispell. According to Principal Dana Hashley, Migwi was on her way to a piano lesson at the time of the accident. Hashley said the school has organized a team of grief counselors to help students with the loss of their classmate.

“(Migwi) was incredibly active in her school community serving in the Chamber Choir, Women’s Choir, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Drama and Art program, (National Honor Society), as well as tutoring students in elementary grades. In addition to her school service, Tabitha was an active member of Hope Church and the Children’s Theatre in Bigfork,” Hashley wrote in a message to students and staff Tuesday morning. “She was classy, bright, cheerful, and upbeat – truly a fountain of joy.  She was known as a selfless student who loved others and lifted them up with her kind nature.”
