A moderate earthquake rattled parts of northern Montana, but authorities say there were no reports of injury or damage.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude 4.5 temblor struck just before midnight Friday and was centered about five miles beneath Whitefish, which is about 15 miles north of Kalispell.
Flathead County officials say many residents noticed the shaking.
“We had quite a few calls with people stating that they felt it,” said Tim Tepas, a supervisor with the county emergency communications center.
He says no one reported any injuries or damages.
The USGS website had about 200 hits from people saying their felt it, most of them from Kalispell and Whitefish.
