HELENA — A Manhattan father who lost his son in a rifle accident 14 years ago says he can finally rest after fighting gun manufacturer Remington Arms Co. over the triggers on its bolt-action hunting rifles.
Richard Barber tells the Missoulian that the company’s action could save many Remington rifle owners from harm or death.
Remington and plaintiffs including in two class-action lawsuits agreed Friday to a settlement under which the company will replace triggers in millions of guns, including Model 700 and Model Seven rifles. The company also has agreed to replace XMP triggers on a number of other models, but does not acknowledge any equipment defect.
Barber settled his own lawsuit against Remington years ago.
