STAFFORD, Va. — A 27-year-old man serving a life sentence in Montana has been indicted on charges he detonated homemade explosives at the Virginia homes of his former fiance and law enforcement officers.
Laurence Alan Stewart II was indicted this week on eight felony charges by a grand jury in Stafford County.
Stewart was sentenced in June 2013 in Montana for attempting to kill seven Montana law enforcement officers by throwing pipe bombs at them during a chase. He was sentenced without the possibility of parole.
Stewart fled to Montana after he set off a pipe bomb Oct. 30, 2012, at the home of his ex-fiance, who had a restraining order against him. He had also targeted law enforcement officials with homemade explosives.
No one was injured in the explosions.
Despite his Montana life term, the local prosecutor in Virginia still wants to prosecute him, The Free Lance-Star reported Friday.
Stewart is charged in Stafford with two counts each of arson, attempted capital murder, possessing a firebomb and terrorism.
