FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield girls’ basketball team, which has won the past four Class B state titles, extended its winning streak to 119 games on Thursday with a 45-43 win over Belt.
Lizzy Klinker scored 20 points and stole Belt’s final in-bounds pass with just seconds remaining to preserve the win and extend the longest girls’ basketball winning streak in state history, eclipsing the 72-game streak by Great Falls High from 1980-83.
The Belt girls are formidable themselves, having won three consecutive Class C titles.
Fairfield puts its streak on the line again Friday with a home game against defending Class A champion Havre.
The Eagles have played in the last seven Class B title games, falling only to Malta in 2010 — the team’s last loss.
