Montana Senate Approves Right to Try Bill

Would allow terminally ill patients to seek experimental drugs

By Associated Press

HELENA – A proposed bill that would allow terminally ill patients to seek experimental drugs as a last-ditch effort to improve their condition has passed the state Senate.

Senate Bill 142 goes to the House where the House Human Services Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing on Wednesday.

So-called Right To Try laws are already in place in five states, and Montana is among another 26 considering the law this year.

The national effort to give terminally ill Americans access to investigational medications is being led by the Goldwater Institute.

The idea is to give terminally ill patients access to drugs and other devices that have not yet been approved for use in the United States.
