HELENA — A former state employee has been given a six-year deferred sentence and was ordered to pay $36,500 in restitution for embezzling from the Department of Livestock.
The Independent Record reports Cindy Lou Cartwright pleaded no contest to felony theft of property by embezzlement. District Judge Jeffrey Sherlock sentenced her on Feb. 12.
Prosecutors say Cartwright stole the money between July 2003 and May 2010 while she worked as the state brand recorder. Helena police say she processed brand applications, but kept the money.
Charges were filed last June.
