Bigfork Boys, Girls Travel to Great Falls for State Tournaments

The Bigfork boys are back to defend their title while the girls are cruising to the state tournament also hoping to bring home hardware.

In a rematch of last year’s title game, the Vikings (21-2) open the Class B boys state tournament in Great Falls against Columbus (20-4) on Thursday. The teams tip off at 9 a.m.

Bigfork defeated Columbus 71-62 last year to win its first basketball championship.

The Vikes placed second at the Western B Divisional on Feb. 28, falling to Missoula Loyola 67-55.

The Rams (19-3) open up the state tournament against Sweet Grass at 5 p.m., Thursday. Choteau plays St. Labre at 10:30 a.m. and Huntley Project takes on Rocky Boy or Malta, which played in a challenge game on Monday after the Beacon went to print.

In the girls bracket, Bigfork opens up against Colstrip at 8 p.m., Thursday in Great Falls. The Valkyries (19-4) won the Western B Divisional on Feb. 27.

Forsyth takes on Plains at noon, Thursday. Malta plays Columbus at 1:30 p.m. and Manhattan takes on Choteau at 6:30 p.m.
