The Whitefish Wolverines edged the Butte Cobras in a three-game hockey series at Stumptown Ice Den last weekend.

The first-year junior program won 4-3 on Sunday to claim the series, 2 games to one. Chris Cutshall scored a pair of goals in the final match and Ian Wiens and Brett Fernandez each scored for Whitefish.

Whitefish advanced to the next round of the Northwest Division playoffs and will take on the Idaho Junior Steelheads. The series is in McCall, Idaho, starting March 13.

Whitefish picked up an impressive victory earlier this season, defeating the Steelheads 6-1. Idaho is the top team in the league and one of the top junior hockey teams in the nation. The loss to Whitefish was the team’s first defeat in regulation in 36 games.
