Blacktail Mountain Closes for the Season

Ski area cites warm temperatures, rain in decision to end season early

Blacktail Mountain Ski Area in Lakeside has closed for the season.

The Lakeside ski area made the decision to end the season early on March 28 after warm temperatures and rain led to undesirable conditions. In years past, the ski area has remained open well into April.

Blacktail joins a growing number of ski areas in the Northwest that have called it quits due to a warm winter. The Turner Mountain Ski Area in Libby opened late and closed in February after struggling with snowpack all winter.

While Blacktail and Turner have closed, Whitefish Mountain Resort remains open, however numerous trails and lifts are closed. Officials hope to keep the lifts running until April 12.
