HAMILTON — The Ravalli County commission is trying to find someone who can track down former county treasurer Valerie Stamey.
County authorities have been trying to track down Stamey since June, when commissioners decided to file a lawsuit seeking $29,000 after she was accused of failing to complete official duties during her short tenure as interim county treasurer.
So far, no one has been able to find her to serve the subpoena that would move that lawsuit forward.
The Missoulian reports sheriff’s officers made numerous attempts to serve legal papers at her home near Victor. Stamey’s husband told officers she was in a different state, but wouldn’t say which one.
Stamey’s office was investigated and a retired treasurer was brought in to help sort through months of backlogged work.
