MISSOULA – Max Baucus, the U.S. Ambassador to China, is scheduled to speak at the University of Montana’s graduation ceremony on May 16.
School officials say Baucus will speak about the importance of Montana values.
Baucus served 40 years in Congress and took leadership roles in passing the Affordable Care Act and the 1990 Clean Air Act along with conservation, farm and highway bills. He served in the U.S. House from 1975-78 and in the Senate from 1978 to 2013. He was nominated as ambassador in January 2014.
The United States and China have reached several agreements during Baucus’ tenure, including a plan to stop its carbon emissions from growing by 2030, and an agreement to extend the validity of business, tourist and student and exchange visas.
