The Montana Wilderness Association is gearing up for summer by revealing its 2015 Wilderness Walks calendar. Starting in May and going throughout the summer, the association will host more than 160 free day hikes, field trips, trail building and maintenance projects, wild land inventory outings and backpacking adventures across some of the state’s most magnificent backcountry. The MWA’s Flathead-Kootenai Chapter will host 38 of those walks, with excursions into the Whitefish Range, Cabinet Mountains and Scotchman Peaks.

Among the outings being hosted by the association is a Lost Trail birding trip on May 16, a hike to Star Peak in the Kootenai National Forest on June 27 and a hike to the Coal Ridge Lookout near Polebridge on July 18.

All MWA outings are free and open to the public, but participants must first preregister. The complete 2015 Winter Wilderness Walks schedule is available online, as is the preregistration form at www.wildmontana.org/walks.
