Roland Benedict Named Girls Soccer Coach at Whitefish

Bigfork graduate takes over girls soccer program after serving as assistant for two seasons

By Dillon Tabish

Roland Benedict has been named the new head coach of the girls soccer team at Whitefish High School.

Whitefish Activities Director Aric Harris announced the hire earlier this week. It is pending final approval by the school board.

Benedict will replace Wendy Farrens, who stepped down after four seasons with a 36-17-3 record. Whitefish was 6-6-2 last season.

Benedict served as an assistant coach under Farrens the past two seasons and also was an assistant for the boys program for one year.

Benedict, the son of Hollywood actor Dirk Benedict, was an all-state soccer player at Bigfork High School and graduated in 2008. He earned an invitation to train with Manchester City, one of the premier soccer clubs in the world, and played for the Koninklijke Racing Club Gent-Zeehaven, a Belgian soccer club, for one year.

In recent years, he joined the Flathead Rapids mens team as a player and director of mentoring. He has also coached the womens team.
