TEDx, the community version of the internationally acclaimed TED Talks organization, is coming to Whitefish on May 4.
Tickets are limited to 100 seats. Tickets are $55 and may be purchased online.
The theme for TEDxWhitefish 2015 is “Expanding Great Northern Minds.” The theme honors pioneering efforts of the Great Northern Railroad generation and calls to the contemporary Flathead community to face forward, upward, and northerly in their footsteps.
TED, the online originator for TEDx, is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. The acronym stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design — however, the topics now encompass a much broader spectrum. TED originally started as a four-day conference in California in 1984, and has grown to support world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. At TED, the world’s leading thinkers and doers are asked to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes or less. Talks are then made available free, at TED.com.
The community version of TED, called TEDx, started as a new initiative 5 years ago. It offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world, within the nonprofit TED program. These micro-events help locally based, world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community, amplifying the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
“TEDx concentrates a groundswell of knowledge and great ideas into one place. We’re really excited to be bringing this venue to Whitefish, putting a Great Northern angle on the already great tradition of TED,” said Cassandra Sunnell, founder of TEDx Whitefish.
TEDxWhitefish will feature locally rooted speakers ranging from travelers and musicians to businesspeople, mayors, and superintendents. Speakers include: Aaron Taylor, Chuck Tooley, Colin Wright, Jeff Mow, Susan Clarke and CrisMarie Campbell, Eric Hosek, Diana Damron, Rebecca Schaffer, Andy Shirtliff, Miranda Youngren, Courtney McKee, Jack Gladstone, Joe Coco, Alea Leilani, Keith Brown, and John Hudson.
