A man died after his motorcycle crashed into a roadside ditch on a county road west of Kalispell.

The Montana Highway Patrol says the man’s motorcycle went off Rhodes Draw around noon on Monday and landed in a ditch that contained water.

Trooper Pat Herman says a witness saw the driver start to lose control before going into the ditch. He was unresponsive when emergency responders arrived and died at the scene.

Herman said the man suffered head trauma, but it was possible he was knocked unconscious and drowned. The cause of death is still under investigation.

The patrol says the man was in his 40s or 50s. His name and hometown haven’t been released.
