Polson Hosts Rock Skipping Championships This Weekend

Flathead Lake Rock Skipping Championship to showcase finesse, touch and fun

By Beacon Staff

Warm up those arms and test your rock-skipping skills in Polson this weekend.

The 2015 Flathead Lake Rock Skipping Championship will crown a Montana State Rock Skipping Record Holder on May 30 at the Riverside Park Dock in Polson.

Organizers of the inaugural event say it is the first of its event in Montana. Locals and visitors will be pitted against each other in a contest for who can skip the longest rock across Flathead Lake. The event will be a showcase of finesse, touch and fun, according to organizers.

The event is B.Y.O.R. — Bring Your Own Rocks — and will be a family friendly event.

Registration begins Saturday May 30 at 9 a.m. at Cove Deli & Pizza. Registration costs $10 each or $30 for the whole family.

There will be two categories per gender; 12 and under, and 13 and up.

The Flathead Lake Rock Skipping Championship begins at 10 a.m. and will finish around at 11 a.m. when awards are given and the state record is bestowed. The Cove Deli & Pizza will offer free pizza to all participants.

Early registration is available Friday May 29 at Cove Deli & Pizza’s “Pirates of Summer” Block party from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
