HELENA — A Montana law-enforcement official says human remains found in a wilderness area northeast of Helena are believed to be a Colorado man reported missing in 2013.
Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton said Friday the remains were found Sunday in the Gates of the Mountains Wilderness. An investigation linked them to 52-year-old Dale Brownlow.
The Great Falls Tribune reports the remains will be sent to the state crime lab in Missoula.
The wildlife biologist from Denver was reported missing in December 2013. His pickup truck was found at a trailhead in the wilderness area about 25 miles northeast of the Missouri River.
His sister said at the time that Brownlow had been staying at a Helena motel since August 2013. Sheriff’s called off the search after several weeks.
