Authorities have identified the three victims of a single-vehicle crash near Babb.

The Glacier County Sheriff’s Office reported that Elizabeth Edna Chavez, 31, Simon Tony Chavez, 29, and Kristian Chavez, 5, were pronounced dead at the scene of a rollover on June 8. The fatal crash occurred on Duck Lane Road 21 miles north of Browning near the east side of Glacier National Park.

A 2-year-old girl survived the crash and was released from the hospital with minor injuries.

A 1-year-old boy was flown to Great Falls and is in critical condition.

Four of the five passengers were ejected from the vehicle. The two adults and 5-year-old were not wearing seat belts and the 1-year-old was in a car seat but the car seat was not fastened properly to the vehicle.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Michael Jensen said speed appears to have been a factor in the crash. He said the driver likely drifted into the left-hand lane, over-corrected and lost control of the vehicle, which rolled several times.

Authorities received a report of the crash at 8:30 p.m.

The victims were enrolled Blackfeet tribal members with Washington license plates and identification but were living in the Babb area at the time, according to authorities.

Jensen said it is unknown if alcohol was a factor but said there were alcohol containers in the vehicle and at the scene of the incident.

The crash remains under investigation.
