MISSOULA — Police in Missoula have found a 31-year-old woman who was reported missing after going on a nighttime float on the Clark Fork River during a follow-up check at her residence. She was unharmed.

Office Jim Klawitter tells KGVO-AM that Kate Baker told some friends at about 3 a.m. Wednesday that she was going to float the river from a spot behind a grocery store to Brennan’s Wave, a whitewater park in downtown Missoula.

Klawitter says the woman’s friends lost sight of her. They looked at Brennan’s Wave and searched the riverbanks before reporting her missing shortly before 5 a.m.

Several agencies had boats in the water and Klawitter says police had checked her residence. Officers located her at about 11:15 a.m.

It was unclear why Baker couldn’t be located earlier.
