GREAT FALLS TRIBUNE, Mont. (AP) — A grizzly bear and her two cubs are being relocated after killing about 10 sheep near Lake Frances.
The Great Falls Tribune reports the bears will be moved Friday to a site in the North Fork of the Flathead River.
Grizzly bear management biologist, Mike Madel, says the bear family had been spotted near the east shore of Lake Frances, where they killed about 10 sheep.
Madel darted the adult female, named Pondera, from a helicopter Wednesday. The bear ended up in the river, where Madel held her head up to keep her from going under. Madel was later able to dart the two 7-month-old cubs, Messenger and Williams.
The bears were found to be considerably thin. They’ve been fit with tags, so officials can track them.
