MISSOULA — A man charged with killing another man and throwing his body into the Clark Fork River in Missoula has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

The Missoulian reports that 28-year-old Kevin Joseph Lino was sentenced Wednesday in connection with the death of Gilbert “Jack” Berry. He had pleaded no contest to deliberate homicide in April.

Court documents allege that Lino and another man had beaten Berry at the Reserve Street transient camp in July 2014. Lino had allegedly tortured Berry, carving gang symbols into his body and shoving lit cigarettes in his nose.

Lino eventually shot Berry in the head and dumped his body into the Clark Fork River. His body was found August 5.

Lino will serve his 40-year term in the Montana State Prison.
