In a battle between crosstown rivals, the Billings Scarlets defeated the Royals 7-1 on Sunday to win the AA Montana/Alberta Legion Baseball state championship.
The Scarlets cruised through the bracket with a perfect 5-0 record en route to their first title since 2011. The Royals eliminated defending champion Missoula 10-8 Saturday to advance to the championship game.
Helena eliminated the Kalispell Lakers 7-4 on Thursday. Brandon Maassen led the Lakers’ offense with two doubles and Robert Reaser had a pair of RBI. Missoula defeated Kalispell 10-3 in the opener.
At the Class A state tournament in Kalispell, Laurel and Bitterroot advanced to the championship game, which will be played Monday afternoon. Lethbridge eliminated the Kalispell Lakers 14-1 on Saturday.
