HELENA — State officials say 15 percent of Montanans lack health insurance, down from 20 percent two years ago.
Montana Insurance Commissioner Monica Lindeen said Wednesday preliminary statistics show the state saw a net increase of more than 23,000 people with health insurance as of May 2015.
Approximately 195,000 Montanans lacked health insurance in 2013 before the final changes required by the Affordable Care Act went into effect.
Lindeen says that number is down to about 151,000 Montanans. She’s glad the numbers are in decline, but would like to see the number drop even further.
Lindeen’s office has been surveying the state’s health insurance companies and collecting other data to determine how changes in health insurance are affecting the number of uninsured Montanans.
