Apgar Lookout Trail Reopens in Glacier National Park

Trail open following 10-day closure for replacement of communications tower

By Beacon Staff

The Apgar Lookout Trail re-opened Tuesday following a 10-day closure while workers replaced a National Park Service communications tower on Apgar Mountain.

Apgar Mountain is located on the west side of Glacier National Park overlooking Lake McDonald. Its lookout tower remains closed.

Workers used a helicopter to transport the communications tower and building from atop Apgar Mountain to a landing zone near the base of the mountain. A new communications tower and structure were then installed in order to better support park radio operations.

Visitors should be cautious of any debris or construction materials near the trail and the Apgar Lookout. Climbing on any equipment or materials is dangerous and prohibited.

Visit the park’s trail status report online at http://www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/hikingthetrails.htm for information about trail access at Glacier National Park.
