Firefighters from the Kalispell, Evergreen, Whitefish, and West Valley Fire Departments quickly extinguished a basement fire that started on Aug. 25 in a home at 214 Garland St. in Kalispell.
A driver passing by the single family house just before noon noticed smoke coming from a basement egress window and notified the fire department. Kalispell Fire Chief Dave Dedman said nobody was home and all of the residents were accounted for. No one was injured in the fire. Officials said most damage to the structure was caused by smoke, and the preliminary estimated damage cost is $50,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
