The trip is intended for business leaders to network with potential buyers

HELENA — Representatives of Montana coal, agriculture and other top industries are planning to visit Asia this fall to expand export opportunities.

Gov. Steve Bullock announced Friday he’ll lead the trade mission to South Korea and Taiwan from Oct. 24 to Oct. 30.

The trip is intended for business leaders to network with potential buyers.

South Korea is Montana’s second largest trade partner after Canada. Mainland China and the neighboring island of Taiwan are, together, the third-highest buyers of Montana goods.

The Department of Commerce says roughly 75 percent of all Montana wheat is sold into Asian markets. The majority of the state’s other primary export, coal, also goes to Asia.

Bullock escorted a similar trip to China in 2014. Gov. Brian Schweitzer sent a trade mission to Russia in 2007 and led one in Israel in 2010.
