HELENA — Montana public health authorities are investigating salmonella cases in Cascade, Fergus, Flathead, Gallatin, Lewis and Clark, Park, Musselshell and Yellowstone counties.
The state Department of Public Health and Human Services says 11 salmonella cases have been confirmed and two suspected cases have been identified.
Sick persons are being interviewed to obtain information about foods they might have eaten and other exposures in the week before their illness began.
Officials say they are making every effort to identify a common source quickly and to protect consumers from any products or practices that may be unsafe.
Exposure to salmonella bacteria can cause fever, abdominal discomfort, vomiting and other ailments.
