Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks announced yesterday that the comment period on proposed changes to fishing regulations for 2016 will be extended an extra three weeks until Oct. 3.

The comment period was to end Saturday, Sept. 12. Over the past four weeks, FWP conducted eight statewide public meetings on the proposed regulations.

“We’ve had several requests for more time to comment,” said Joel Tohtz, FWP’s Fisheries Management bureau chief in Helena. “I’m happy to say we can extend the comment period another three weeks and still meet all required deadlines.I encourage everyone with interest to comment if they haven’t already.”

In the western district, FWP is proposing to increase the harvest limits for lake trout from 10 daily to 20 daily and 40 in possession.

To comment on the proposed changes visit FWP’s website at fwp.mt.gov; or email to [email protected]; or mail to Joel Tohtz, Fisheries Management Bureau Chief, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, P.O. Box 200701; Helena, MT 59601.

Comments must be received by Oct. 3. The Fish & Wildlife Commission will take final action on the regulations in October.
