The Kalispell Chamber of Commerce has started recruiting local businesses for Small Business Saturday. Scheduled for Nov. 28, the Saturday after Black Friday, the event champions a day to shop small.
The chamber’s inaugural Kalispell Small Business Saturday occurred in 2013 and attracted 28 businesses. In 2014, Kalispell’s Small Business Saturday hosted 70 businesses, partnering together to encourage shoppers to keep some of their holiday dollars local.
“It’s been exciting to watch both participation and support of this wonderful event grow over the last four years,” said Kalispell Chamber president Joe Unterreiner. “As we did last year, we are looking for ways to expand our marketing efforts, partner with other chambers, and help local restaurants and retailers increase holiday sales this season. As the Chamber, we are committed to the success of our small business community and this is one practical way we are backing that commitment.”
Not only does Small Business Saturday give small businesses the chance to showcase the variety and quality of their goods, it cultivates a network of independent businesses united for a common cause. From salons and fine jewelry to camping gear and dining establishments, Small Business Saturday supports all types of retailers and service providers.
Participation is free. Small, independent businesses will be given free marketing materials such as bags, stickers, and floor mats to promote Flathead Valley’s “Shop Small” initiative. The event is also supported by a large-scale advertising campaign, fully financed by American Express, encouraging Kalispell residents to Shop Small on November 28.
Businesses registered by Oct. 1 will be entered to win one of five $25 American Express gift cards. Winners will be announced at the October luncheon and gift cards will be awarded in early November.
