Football Roundup: Glacier, Whitefish Pick Up Big Wins

Bozeman shuts out Flathead; Thompson Falls edges Bigfork

Week five of the high school football season is in the books. Here’s a breakdown of last Friday’s local games:

Glacier 77, Missoula Hellgate 8

Thomas Trefney rushed for five touchdowns as the Wolfpack whipped the Knights in Legends Stadium on Sept. 25.

Trefney tied a school record in only two quarters of action as Glacier won its third straight. He finished with 17 carries for 135 yards.

Drew Turner rushed nine times for 83 yards and three TDs. Noah Lindsey caught an 11-yard TD pass from quarterback Leif Ericksen, who finished 4-of-10 for 135 yards.

The Glacier defense limited the Knights (0-5) to six first downs and 120 total yards. Matt Winchester returned a fumble 46 yards for the score. Cameron Anderson hit a 30-yard field goal and Caden Harkins hit a 20-yard field goal.

Glacier (3-2) hosts Missoula Sentinel (3-2) on Friday night at 7 p.m..

Whitefish 55, Corvallis 7

Luke May combined for four touchdowns, Chris Park rushed in a pair of scores and the Bulldogs ran past the Blue Devils in Corvallis last week.

Whitefish scored 34 points in the first quarter en route to its third straight win. May connected on a 48-yard TD pass to Jed Nagler and a 10-yard TD pass to Brady Staves. May also rushed in from three yards and six yards.

Park scored on runs of two yards and 47 yards. Derek Kastella had a 15-yard interception return for a score and Bondi Venery rushed 90 yards for a score.

The Bulldogs (4-1) host Northwestern A foe Polson (2-2) on Friday night at 7 p.m.

Bozeman 23, Flathead 0

The Hawks shut out the Braves’ potent offense en route to victory on Friday night in Bozeman.

Balue Chapman scored a 3-yard run in the second quarter and Payton O’Reilly blocked a field goal and returned it 92 yards for a TD in the third quarter. Connor Coles nit a 31-yard field goal and Trace Bradshaw capped the scoring with a 3-yard run in the fourth.

Flathead managed 241 yards of offense but only 72 yards of rushing. Quarterback Bridger Johnson was 18-of-28 for 169 yards.

The Braves (3-2) travel to Missoula to play the Knights (0-5) on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

Thompson Falls 21, Bigfork 14

The Blue Hawks scored a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter and held off the Vikings to secure a Western 7B victory on Friday night.

Bigfork built a 14-7 lead by halftime after Matthew Farrier rushed in a pair of TDs. Thompson Falls’ McKenzie Holt scored a 20-yard TD run in the third quarter and Jacob Dothit added a 1-yard run minutes later to take the lead.

Thompson Falls (3-2 overall, 1-0 in conference) moved into first place in the District 7B standings with the victory.

Bigfork (2-3, 0-1) is idle this week before traveling to Libby (0-3, 0-1) for another conference matchup on Oct. 9.

Polson 37, Frenchtown 0

Tanner Wilson passed for 133 yards and two touchdowns and Colton Cote rushed for 126 yards and two scores as the Pirates defeated Frenchtown on Friday.

Willson finished 9-of-13 for 133 yards and no interceptions. He connected with Matthew Rensvold on scores of two and 6 yards. Rensvold added a third TD with a 4-yard run. The Pirates defense also recorded a safety.

Polson (2-2 overall, 1-0 in Northwestern A) travels to Whitefish (4-1, 0-0) on Friday night for another conference matchup.

Columbia Falls, idle

The Wildcats were idle last week but return to action this Friday at Dillon (4-0, 1-0).
