COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A Montana grizzly bear that made its way to the Coeur d’Alene River Drainage last month has been shot and killed by a hunter.

The Coeur D’Alene reports spokesman for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Phil Cooper, says the 165-pound grizzly was shot near Osburn Wednesday.

The bear was trapped and collared in Montana in August, and then relocated to the Cabinet Mountains near Whitefish, Montana.

Wildlife officials had lost sight of the bear until it was spotted near Kingston in early September. Attempts at rescuing the bear were unsuccessful.

The bear was last seen making its way east near Osburn earlier this week.

The incident is still being investigated.
