Billings Central Ousts Whitefish Girls in State Semifinals

Three goals late in the second half doomed the Whitefish girls soccer team as Billings Central secured a 5-3 victory in the state semifinals on Oct. 24.

The Rams (11-0-1) advanced to the Class A state championship match against Laurel (7-4-1) on Oct. 31.

The Lady Bulldogs (10-4-1) end another impressive season after advancing deep into the postseason.

Haley Nicholson scored a goal in the first half to increase her season total to 31. She also had 11 assists.

Melissa Pollard scored a pair for Whitefish as well.

Billings Central’s Mariah Wittman achieved a hat trick. She scored two goals in the final 10 minutes of action to lead the Rams to the title match.

In boys action, defending state champion Corvallis will take on Belgrade in the Class A title match this weekend. Belgrade defeated Missoula Loyola 4-2 in the semifinal round and Corvallis edged Billings Central 2-1.
