Glacier Boys Advance to State Soccer Tournament

Glacier plays Bozeman in the opening round on Thursday

Glacier scored four penalty kicks in overtime to defeat Helena Capital and advance to the Class AA state soccer tournament.

Micah Reason, Conner Heil, Brady Schultz and Ben Wright each scored in overtime as the Wolfpack edged the Bruins 4-3 in penalty kicks to win a thrilling playoff on Oct. 23. Wright and Reason added goals in regulation.

Glacier goalie Ryker McIntyre made six saves in the match.

The Wolfpack advanced to the state tournament in Billings, Oct. 29-31. Glacier (7-6-1) plays defending state champion Bozeman (11-2) in the opening round on Thursday.

In other state action, Missoula Hellgate (11-1) takes on Billings West; Billings Senior (12-0) plays Missoula Sentinel (6-5-2); and Billings Skyview (8-4-1) plays Helena (9-3-1).

Sentinel defeated Flathead 3-1 in a playoff on Oct. 22 to end the Braves’ season.

The Helena Capital girls eliminated Flathead from playoff contention with a 4-1 victory on Oct. 22. The Lady Bruins advanced to the girls state soccer tournament in Billings.
